Brokaw FFA members conduct seatbelt program

Brokaw FFA members of Clarinda conducted a rural road safety program entitled "Buckle Up or Eat Glass" to area students on September 17.

The program is sponsored in part by Farm Safety 4 Just Kids and the Governor's Safety Council.
As part of the program, members stopped cars, trucks, SUV's, and other 4-wheel drive vehicles and checked for seatbelt use at Clarinda Middle School and Lutheran School.

Those students wearing their safety belts were given a "prize" for doing so. FFA members then presented a safety presentation, highlighting many safety procedures to use in rural areas and startling statistics about rural accidents.

The presentation was given at the Lutheran School and the Middle School.

After completing the final report, it showed that 88% of the students who were stopped and checked for seatbelt use were indeed wearing their safety belts. This figure is up from last year's 80% seatbelt use.
