Tour of Balkans gives new perspective
Although Saunders Counexperienced some very cold weather this winter, Al Vybiral wasn't shivering quite as hard as some.
In fact, the Wahoo crop consultant said he has a new appreciation for how cold it can get after spending a little time in the Balkan nations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.
Vybiral left for his adventure on Jan. 8 and returned on Jan. 21. While he was overseas, the average daily temperature never climbed out of the single-digits. The warmest it ever got was about 5 or 6 degrees above zero.

North Platte River Basin Snowmelt Runoff Forecast
The Wyoming Area Office of the Bureau of Reclamation in Mills, Wyoming, has prepared snowmelt runoff forecasts for the North Platte River Basin. The April 1st forecast of the spring snowmelt runoff for the North Platte Basin is above average for the North Platte Basin above Seminoe Reservoir and the Sweetwater River above Pathfinder Reservoir. Economic experts: Conditions mimic farm crisis of 1980s
Nebraska ag producers who think causes of the current recession sound familiar are right. They have seen it all before.
"We got into this mess because Wall Street didn't understand the farm crisis of the 1980s. They didn't learn those lessons, " said Jason Henderson, vice president and chief economist at the Omaha branch of the Federal Reserve Bank in Kansas City.

Aurora Co-op announces $11 million expansion plans
Grand Island properties of the Aurora Cooperative will be part of a major $11 million expansion by the co-op later this year, said George Hohwieler, the co-op's president and chief executive officer.
Hohwieler said the Aurora Cooperative plans to expand grain storage, drying and handling capabilities at its three Nebraska railroad terminals located at Sedan, Grand Island and Aurora (West).
As part of that expansion in Grand Island, the Aurora Cooperative also announced its plan to develop its new site on the eastern edge of Grand Island. The site, formerly known as Sundance Feed and Seed, was previously acquired by the company and will become the agronomy/energy service location as Aurora Cooperative moves from its current location at 1104 S. NPNRD board approves water allocation
Following months of discussions and a public hearing, the North Platte Natural Resources District Board of Directors unanimously approved a 56-acre-inch per certified irrigated acre allocation for ground water irrigators during the next four years.

For the month of February 2010, below average temperatures during the last 3 weeks of the month and snow cover made for harsh conditions for livestock according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. Snow covered fields made grazing of stalks difficult and more hay is being fed. Calving is under way and progressing.
